HGV Theory Test

When it comes to getting your HGV licence, you will need to go through both a theory test and a practical test before you can become fully qualified to drive a lorry. The theory test however is very much like that of the car test, both in terms of process and the fact that it comprises two parts -the multiple choice aspect and the Hazard Perception section.

Because you already hold a driving licence, you will know that the multiple choice section is a serious of questions where you are required to give the correct answer - there will be four answers for you to choose from and you must provide the right answer to 85 out of a hundred questions. The Hazard Perception test is also just like the car test with your score being based on how quick your reactions are to certain scenarios - it requires you to be alert and aware to gain the maximum score. It is well known however that the Hazard Perception aspect of the test is the one that often trips people up, so the best tip would be to download some practice clips and put plenty of effort into getting it right.

When it comes to general advice on taking the theory test however, one of the most important things to remember is that practice makes perfect. In terms of preparation and being mentally ready for your exam, revising and doing practice tests will help your cause no end and you will soon feel the benefits when all the questions come easy to you. Quite often, people assume that a lot of the questions will be general knowledge based and will require nothing more than a little common sense - this to some extent is true, but you can always guarantee, if you don't revise and prepare fully for your theory test, you will soon become unstuck as the test isn't easy to fluke and a lack of knowledge will become clear straight away.

To prepare fully for both parts of the exam, download example questions and hazard perception demos and practice for at least a couple of months in advance to make sure you are one hundred per cent prepared. If you put in the hard work, the rewards will soon begin to show.
